The ones that need to be schooled are the reps who answer the phone there, I called in and spoke with a rep and we had a good conversation about the pipe. I explained that I have a decatted stock pipe and wanted to know honest and real expectations, I was told "not to expect much over what I have" He did say that the tone may change just a little for the better but volume would be the same. Sound is really my main goal, I'm not concerned that much about performance because all I have is stage 1 and its running about as good as its going to for what it is. I want a pipe thats gonna direct some sound to the left muffler not 90% out the right. With the "T" joint of the the FM and any other pipe that uses that type of collector/crossover its gonna be the same as a decatted stocker.
*for your application*, but understand that they make a product that has to work for a range of applications, and as you begin to add components to the build - cams, heads, compression, larger displacement, etc, the differences that Jamie points out become more important. But to claim that it is no different than a decatted stock pipe is not accurate.

When I'm spending $5-600 the only application I'm concerned with is my application. I understand what you are saying about building for a range of different components but I will not be going in to my motor so I'm looking for whats best for my bike, not trying to **** anyone off or convince anyone to agree with me, like I said I'm sure it is an outstanding pipe if it fits your application and what you expect out of it. I would love to see a side by side comparison of all the top player headpipes. At the end of the day all that matters is we are happy with our bikes and the parts we spend our money on.
My application is still stock and what is cool with the M8 it performs well for me. Now I can watch and learn while waiting for the warranty to expire. Then plan my next move. My TC motors had to go stage 1 right out of the box cause they did not perform as well stock. Also didn't have to worry about voiding the warranty.
Build date for my 2017 is 8/16 and checking very closely for transmission oil migration...jury still not out yet.

My build date is 7/16 and knock on wood the only issue I've had is an oil line leak in October 2016, 10k miles now and all good since. If there is something I want to do to my bike I'm gonna do it, warranty or not. No way I was gonna wait two years for a warranty to expire, hell, I might be "expired" in two years so I'm gonna live it up and enjoy my bike the way I want while I'm alive and well!

That is a good point. Overall pretty happy with it. I did change my bars so I might have already lost the warranty.
I was at a vendor "Bassani pipe booth" over the weekend. They sold "50 state compliant" 2 into 1 systems. I heard the pipe on a new M8 motor, it was a little louder but still very muffled. Different bike, same M8 motor but the racing version of the Bassani pipe. The difference was night and day, the racing version brought back to old HD sound we're used to.
What we're dealing with is a major crack down from the EPA, Harley folded and went went this new design to quiet down the motor and so did every exhaust manufacturer that wanted to stay within the EPA requirements.
That's the bottom line. Trust me, you don't wanna be on the wrong end of the EPA, they will kill you in court and close your company faster than you can shake a stick.
FM is selling EPA 50 state legal components, good for them. It's what you do when you want to stay in business. If you want throat in an exhaust note on your M8, you ain't getting it with a 50 state pipe.
I got a set of Rinehart slip-ons with my new RG, I swear, it's as quiet as stock. I went with a racing 2 into 1 header and now have something like we are all used too. Also, by balancing the motor the throaty sound we are all used too is gone. A cam will help eliminate that as well.

We also have a very early 2017 M8 bike, we took delivery of it the same day they were released last August. As of today we have had zero issues, also consider the motor has been tested in quite a few configurations; a couple dozen exhausts, a half dozen different cams, we developed our 117 and 120 big bore kits, and tested quite a few assorted components. Not to mention its primary use was EFI calibration development for the various combinations. The bike has in the thousands of dyno runs and the bike is driven daily. We have been fortunate with none of the fluid transfer or sumping issues that some have reported, bike is awesome.
