is that the main reason? more than one way to skin that cat...or are you concerned about durability and longevity? wouldn't it be noisier too? just trying to understand the real World benefits since right off the bat it'd be a $$ upgrade...and yes, ahem, of course..warranty..just honestly don't hear people bringing this up as a common upgrade to solve something they aren't satisfied with
Run out is the issue. I gave up on the twin cams and evo's doing a gear drive cam setup unless it was a spec'ed S&S crate motor with a stroker crank built right.
OP cam it how you want and stay with chain drive unless you want to build a vintage twin top fuel motor. Gear drive gives you about 5% more control and -20% reliability in a HD oem motor. HD crank shaft run out as static measure is about as reliable as a drunk biker passing a dui test. Flex and harmonics are a HD cranks kissing cousin.
