You probably had to buy the M8 so that you could roll your stage 1 costs into financing because you couldn't afford to spend the cash on a stage 1 to get your Rushmore bumped up a few HP/TQ.

I know you're asking someone else, but since I did the same thing I thought I'd add my experience. I traded an aggressively tuned stage one '16 RK (10,000 miles) for an '18 Heritage 114.
Color or numbers? Neither. Performance. Hands down no question. Significantly faster, stronger, better brakes, much better suspension, noticeably stiffer frame. I know it's a lighter bike with a bigger motor so a lot has to do with that, but it's also much cooler running even stock. Once it's stage one the gap between them will widen even more. Also I'd add that the M8 has a character much closer to my EVO..which I prefer over my Twin Cam.

no performance is not always about the numbers..there's a term called 'driveability', which enhances performance, and the manners in which it performs...a Touring bike that runs smoother and doesn't shake and rattle like a 30 year old Maytag, ping under heat and altitude..17 year old dinosaur was long in the tooth and long past due to be sunsetted and replaced by newer and better technology..single cam simplicity, more valves, improved knock sensors..everything about it is better..it outperforms the TC to me because it runs more effortlessly and is more enjoyable to operate as a whole...
you're a black and white numbers guy so just don't get it...my 268 hp Toyota Avalon outperforms my 350 hp 70 Dodge Charger 383 Magnum despite the significant numbers disadvantage
edit: let's just drop this silly bickering and agree to disagree..I prefer the way my M8 performs for Touring over the way my TC did..you like bigger numbers by hopping up your bike for different reasons..I don't feel the need, desire or expense to use a stick of dynamite when an M80 will do just fine for me

Actually for me it was the color. I saw the Laguna Orange and it was love at first sight. Didn't even ride one before I bought it. In spite of that it still has more grunt than the 107 ci. I had with 888, heads, exhaust. It has the same low end as the mildly tuned 117" I had. As I have said before it is the first Harley I've had that I'm not compelled to modify in the search for better performance.
I read LA Vic's post and now I am a bit worried. I am supposed to take delivery of a 2018 Limited on Thursday...was hoping all of the sump issues were part of 2017 history by now. Maybe I should hold off for a while.
Yes. My 2018 Limited is sumping. They installed the latest pump last week in an effort to stop oil from loading up the air filter and running down the front of the engine. Before getting approval to do anything the Tech was instructed to ride the bike at 3000 rpm ( for how long I don't know) and return to the shop without letting the bike idle. Shut it down and drain the sump. Found 7 oz of oil.
Well after 500 miles it's still the same piece of ***** as before the new pump install. Dropped it off again at the dealer today.

Since this is your 1st HD let me explain that this forum is good for a couple things. One is making mountains out of molehills.
Same thing happened when they introduced water cooled bikes. Guy's had some overflow and overheating problems, Oh, Lord, it was the end of the world on here. HD figured it out, everyone got the bike fixed and now you never hear a word. Different bike, same situation.
Right now, yes HD is experiencing sumping issues, more so on the stage 3-4 kits but it is occurring here and there on the standard 107. I venture to say an oil pump recall will take place at some time in the future but don't let that stop you from buying a bike. Before winter is over the issue will be resolved and threads like sumping will be a thing of the past.

Yeah, I agree with Oldskewl, there is a more than good chance you won't experience either of these problems and the bike are really the best ride Harley has come out with yet. And like he said, the MOCO or someone else will have a fix for the transfer problem soon, the sumping issue is something the MOCO will have to resolve. If you stay away from the stage 3 & 4 upgrades you will more than likely not experience the sumping problem.
