You don't need an $80 manual to tell you how to check/change your fluids or even maintain your bike for that matter when the free owners manual that comes with the bike explains it all. And for some reason if the op doesn't have the original, its a free download on the Harley website.

And the right direction is certainly where you're pointing him no doubt. But the OP asked how to check his trans fluid and you reply with "before you buy anything get a service manual".
I didn't see him mention buying anything or adding anything to his bike or asking about a service to the bike that would require a service manual.
