i dont see where it says to check the clutch fluid level with bike on the center stand (or upright) or on the side stand???

For primary, look under chaincase lubricant in the maintenance section of the manual. Specifically states ride motorcycle until engine is at operating temperature then stand vehicle upright on a level service so chaincase is level. For transmission, the scoot should be leaning on the jiffy stand after a short period is allowed for the fluid to equalize in the transmission compartments.

M1296 also shows the proper procedures for all 6 speed tranny fluid checks.
