Installed mine tonight and managed to get it done with a full size mid-frame deflector. We'll see how that works long term. Need to go get it activated soon.
I'm seriously thinking of picking one of these up before my trip out west for my CVO Roadglide. I really don't need the auto feature and would be happy with a simple on and off. I'm guessing it would still need to be flashed at the dealer?
My dealer quoted me 2.5 hours. So I opted to wait for the bike. The 2.5hrs turned into 6hrs...Mine was only the second one they installed. Master Tech told me it was a bitch and the instructions were beyond poor. Total time to install was 6 hrs by the time he figured it out and buttoned it back up. Bike was pretty much be completely disassembled, bags off, tank off, seat off, front fairing off, fuse block pulled.. wires everywhere.
Beyond that, the coolflow fan works amazing. It still easy to check the oil and or fill. HD should put these on every bike right from the factory.
WOW, I installed mine in 45mins., did not remove any of that, just the defector and button panel by switch.

does it interfere with trans and oil dipsticks as bad as it appears it would?

It's much more effective if it's been flashed. Turns on and off automatically at certain temperature points, etc. Also, the on/off/automatic function reads out on the information display on the dash.

that is correct. I just had mine installed this week by the dealer.

No you don't. If you have the right tools it is an EASY job! I used a 1/4" ratchet with Universal to mount the bolts to the Fan from beside the battery.
I removed the Deflector, then bolted the fan in and placed the new deflector on the bike. The new button on the dash took less then 5 minutes to put it in and replace the dash back.
I did mine in 20 minutes once I started. I read the instructions twice and it went quickly once I started. It took longer to pull the saddlebag and side cover to get the coding done at the dealer.
