i went from an 07 street glide to a 17 road glide and the ride was better, but there is more to that than just the suspension.

prior to riding to Daytona and back last week, i had legends installed front and back. its a completely different ride now. corners and turns at slow speed much better and the ride quality is far better. you simply can't explain it or read about it and understand. riding it though will make you a believer. yes its expensive, but well worth it if you put a lot of miles on your bike.

Couple things..

IIRC the street glide is lower then the RG. RG has 50% more rear wheel travel unless you changed the shocks. Don't know if there are any differences in front end height but the springs on the 07 were way too soft and they used too heavy oil in the front end (06-08 fairinged bikes). Rear shocks sucked. They were the same back to 97..

I still own a 07 egc. It has progressive regular springs with sag set, 5wt oil and the low speed hole drilled to 7/64. The rears are Works Steel Trackers with ARS. That bike rides way better than my 17 RK. It handles better from about 25 to 60 in the twisties but is less stable than the RK above..

I do look forward to modding the fronts and replacing the rears on the 17 RK tho..

Nope, Road Glide and Street Glide have the same suspension. They both use the "low" shocks. The Ultra and Limited bikes with all the standard luggage have the shocks with an inch more travel. Not sure about the Kings.

Go to the online parts list for a 2012 and the part number for a RG ultra are different than an FLHX.

It's easy to get confused since there are so many reused model names.

The Road Glide (1998-2009) used the longer Ultra shocks.
The Road Glide ULTRA (2011-2013) / (2016-present) uses the longer Ultra shocks.

The Road Glide Custom (2010-2013) used the low profile shocks
The Road Glide (2015-present) uses the low profile
The Road Glide Special (2015-present) uses the low profile

Something like that.

In today's terms a, "RG and SG" share the same shocks. A "RGU and SG" do not.

Really! you Love your M8! Maybe the shrink will have you in for more than just Anger management?
Rushmore was 4 years ago,the back suspension has had two upgrades and the front was done again not 2years ago.The current 2017 suspension is the best they ever have had. Guys don't be put off,buy it ,ride it and if you have the notion customize it!
Let's stop this vulgar negativity and give credit where it is due!
Let me get directly to the point: You are an IDIOT if you believe the stock suspension on the current touring bikes are the best suspension parts available for these bikes. You are an IDIOT to believe we all need to limit ourselves to what the Motor Company provides because anything else is vulgar.

Comments from those of us that have changed/upgraded our suspensions have done so to improve our individual bikes. We ride these bikes because we choose to ride them.

We have proven our support of the product because we have purchased the H-D bikes we own. And we have made them better because factory parts are a compromise based on the Motor Company's need to produce a product that doesn't cost 6 figure prices to build.

BTW - This is NOT my 1st H-D. But my 1st H-D was the very best handling bike I have ever owned after I modified the suspension.

Wow...seems like the suspension threads always go downhill pretty fast. Although It’s normally a forum sponsor talking like that

The above is correct. The CVO Road glides also use the low profile as do the CVO Street glides. The CVO RG ultra and the CVO Ultra use the regular or 13" shocks.
