Another option to not only having a High Flow Filter, but also not feed that hot, oily, oxygen depleted air into the intake, AND keeping the stock cover, is the 606 HiFlow set-up.
Results in better performance AND better engine longevity.
Hi all, i have a SGS with the regular air filter, i would like to switch to a high flow filter same design....i was told to switch to a high flow dilter i need also the "backing plate". I swear i see no difference in the backing place for either of the filters, can someone who has access to the breakdown parts tell me what the part numbers are for each of the filters backing plate are....
are they the same....was I being taken for a ride by the dealership?
Well if you are talking about the SE air filter, I think it does need the backing plate. That backing plate really doesn't look anything like the stock air box.
If you want a filter that doesn't need a different backing plate, K&N makes one that replaces the stock filter.
I you want one that still uses the stock cover, but has higher air flow than the SE, Arlen Ness has one that does that, but it does require a different backing plate.
what I've noticed is the OD / ID of the tubes in SE kits are bigger than the puny 2 into 1 OEM which clogs easier with combustion goo. overall better breathing with the SE High Flow so there's more to it than just the filter itself

Agree, I am checking my OEM tubes every 2k-3k miles and blowing the OEM tubes out with the air compressor hose doesn't seem to be clogging yet maybe cause I'm cleaning the tubes more often. If the OEM tubes clog then I'll make my own bigger tubes from the local auto supply store. SE kit reuses the OEM breather bolts so no big deal.

the gunk was worse in the Winter for us but we made the Stage 1 upgrade shortly after that..since they claim 50% better breathing capacity with the 8 valve design it made sense to try and take advantage of some of that by ditching the more restrictive intake and exhaust and let more air flow through the motor
