Its amazing how many riders that don't own M8 are so free to repeat horror stories that they've read about as gospel. I know there are some bikes out there that have had issues with stage 3 or 4 upgrades and I appreciate their point of view. But for goodness sakes, if you haven't personally experienced something, quit hyping stuff. Couldn't be happier with my cvo limited after 1 year of riding the crap out of it!

I'm afraid of the sumping issues I've read about. With only 1230 mile on mine so far I've dogged it pretty good in the last 200 miles and it takes it like a champ. I'm not looking to go stage 3 or 4 but I do see a stage 2 in the future. I just want the low end torque and gut up and go.

So far I love it. There's only a few M8s I've seen in town, none of which mirror mine.

Q: so what are the chances of my bike sumping, 1 in a 100?
A: more like 1 in 100,000

dont worry too much about it....the owners it unfortunately happen too most times are not telling the whole story of what really happened.... or to be truthful have no mechanical knowledge at all....just the smoke that's blown up there skirt at the dealer on a crappy install. If it's not a dealers installed overpriced stage hack job chances are your going to be fine. Few of the factory motors screw up but it's not as wide spread as a few will have you believe. Its a lot like and annoying little ankle bitter dog that just makes a ship load of noise to hear themselves......it will go away in a few months when they move on to yachts or Ferraris.
Go enjoy your bike....nothing can happen that can't be fixed ...
love the M8. But like my EVO,SHOVEL,TWINK and everyone of them has had major forum problems.....as in they never were permently broken .

Well I hate to be the one to post on here about it but I am a m8 owner I bought a 2018 Ultra limited low in January by the way it's my first Harley I love my bike I love the power of the M8 engine but at about 8500 miles mine started transferring transmission fluid into the primary it's at the Harley dealership right now got to go pick it up they got instructions for me to ride it for 500 miles not to add any fluid to it and bring it back to them I was hoping all the talk on here about the transferring fluid issue was only happening to a handful of people but now it's happening to me the thing that is weird about this is one day I rode 800 miles and check the transmission fluid and there wasn't any on the dipstick so I put about 14 oz of fluid in there and rode about another eight hundred miles the next day and it was only at the low mark so I filled it up to the full Mart the next day I rode about 200 miles and it didn't use any so when I got home from my trip I decided to check the fluid level in the primary and what I had feared had came true when I took the cover off fluid just come running out of the primary and the bike was sitting level on a stand and while it was pouring out I took pictures with my phone and showed it to them at the dealership I hope this is something that can eventually be fixed because I love my bike and Harley is the only one that I know of that makes a Touring bike with a low seat height for a short person like me when I first wrote the bike and seeing how well it fit me I fell in love with it and I still enjoy the bike I just want it fixed but as far as sumping issues go I haven't noticed any problems with that mine doesn't use any oil and if y'all are wondering how I got so many miles on it so quick I took a 7000 mile trip out west I have 10600 miles on it now

I think mine is pretty bad ***. The rest of you either have decent clones of mine or ugly bikes...

Love my M8 - zero issues and love the responsiveness. And as I am certain as has been discussed previously - really tough to get a true gauge on any forum as these seem to attract more negative than positive comments. Social media has turned into a cesspool for negativity - look at any topic and see how the negative far outweighs the positive.

From my perspective it's less that there are issues and more that they've been around for some 2 years now with multiple"fixes" from the maker that haven't fixed much at all.
A lot of vehicles have problems.. but then they fix the brake lines or the cruise control or the fly-by-wire accelerator and it's fixed... not "try this", nope, "try that", nope...

It's great, for sure, that many people have a brilliant bike... but there are also people who throw down their $$$ and end up with a two-wheeled-turd need four engines and still sumping.
It just feels a little too hit-an-miss.

For me, I'm going to wait to buy, not in a super hurry... I'll wait until the '19 bikes arrive and let the early adopters find any flaws. If the fluid transfer and sumping are still there I'll walk away entirely.

Bear in mind that, in Australia, my desired bike is either $45 000 or $52 000 depending on which one I decide to get - I'll buy a lotto ticket for $2... but 50 grand lottery? No thanks.
And, at the end of it all, it's my money, my choice. Their loss if they can't get it fixed right.
