When I was talking to S&S at Sturgis, they said that replacing the factory pump with their pump “would not” solve the sumping issue if you had that problem. It would help on the scavenging of the oil that did migrate, but not solve the migration issue. I had thought the oil pump was a fix before that conversation
The part I saw yesterday with the o-ring seems like a logical fix...time will tell
Sounds like you're getting two different problems mixed up here - migration, where fluid transfers from the transmission to the primary; and sumping, where oil is collecting in the crankcase due to poor oil pump scavenging.
OP, TimObrien, Hope they get it fixed soon and fixed right.
lp. Really appreciate the info on the pump and plate,
Interesting that when I bought my 18, with a build date of 5/18, the dealer and I spent a little time on the phone with Harley. They comfirmed I have the newest pump 62400182, and a new plate. I kept asking cam plate? lol... They said no its a new plate to ensure the pump maintains a good seal. Couldnt quite figure out the plate at time.
What I know for sure is my 18 runs and sounds so much healthier than my 17, hard to explain. Also my 17 consistantly had frothy oil from the day I brought it home along with varying oil levels, while my 18 looks just like it should with no bubbles and consistant oil levels. Love this new bike!
Looks like I'll spending more time bent over at the dealership than usual - looking at build dates on frame downtubes LOL
ps. Does anyone know when MY '18 production ended, ie. what is the latest production date you could see on an '18 model?

interesting..our 17 107s always have aerated oil if checked immediately, pretty much the same on previous TCs we had as well..but if allowed to settle for even a minute you get solid readings...I recall when the M8 was released they said the extra oil capacity was intended to avoid having the aeration condition or something along those lines, not necessarily to accommodate the oil cooled hoses addition
I understand most M8 bikes thankfully never experience any oiling issues. My 17 would be so aerated, even after sitting for around 10 minutes, there would be more bubbles on the stick than oil. I had several twin cams - no similarities.
With everything else being the same, I've seen no noticeable aeration on my 18. Another added plus is the oil level is always higher when hot, just as it should be.

that is weird...never seen that before, like I said, ours settle in within a minute..no explanation for yours

Well damn. Guess if it doesnt help the trans oil migration problem, I'll just have to sell my S&S pump.
Just kidding. I'm keeping it. It's just too damn pretty to sell.

Apologies, thought you remembered. My 17 gave me a ton of grief; cam tensioner failure, lifters failed, running hot, losing power going uphills, etc. One of the very few stage 2 107s that sumped - bad. Dealer, with Harley's help, basicly bought it back as part of the trade for my 18.
The good news is yours isn't acting anything like it.

ahh...no I didn't remember, then again I don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday

lol...I doubt theres any downside at all to installing it!!
Lots of great info in these posts. I just picked up a 2017 rk that's a year old with 40 miles on it. She's in the shop now with a warped plastic intake and waiting for the part (expecting 4 weeks on back order). The sump issue has me concerned but I have a year left on warranty if I ever get it back. Perhaps I should look into an esp?
