One consistent message from all dealers would be great wouldn't it? All I wanted was Rinehart Slipons when I purchased my 18 RK last fall. The parts guy told me that I MUST have a tuner if I was getting slipons. The finance manager shook his head, smiled, and told me the parts guy was #1 working on commission, and #2, basically full of ****
Our local dealer refused to install anything but MOCO slip ons and tuners last year. Fast forward to this spring, and a few weeks after he bought it, they were trying to get my husband to put Rineharts on his new SG. They told him the Rineharts were now "ok" and would not affect the warranty.
I suspect they (our local dealer) are starting to see people are not buying into some of their BS, and are going to other dealers. Must have gotten tired of losing business.
Just spoke with the "exhaust expert" at a Harley dealership and was told that with any slip-on muffler change on the 2019 Road Glide Special I will have to install a Harley tuner for it to work and keep it within warranty. What the heck?!? My dad just had another dealership install aftermarket slip-ons on a brand new RGS he purchased without a tuner and was told he was good with warranty since the pipes were purchased from the dealership. The run-around can sure get frustrating...
Most H-D dealerships exist for one thing and one thing only - to screw their customers out of as much money as possible at every opportunity.
That "expert" you talked to was just doin' his job. It's what he's paid to do.
Roger that! It's the ONLY thing they value, AFAIK.
actually i reread it and it says To Screw The Pooch...you do realize all businesses are in the business of making profits right? Dont matter if youre shopping for new gutters. If you go in uneducated and uniformed and get suckered into a purchase then youre the sucker and hopefully learn from it

Yes, actually I DO realize that, since I run a small business myself. I also realize that screwing your customers at every possible opportunity and continuing to sell products with well known and documented design defects ain't the way to go. I'd be out of business in short order if I pulled the crap that they do.
I further agree that anybody who doesn't do MASSIVE amounts of research into the MoCo's BS policies and shameful past actions before buying anything from them is truly a "sucker" of the first magnitude and deserves whatever they get. Sucks to be them.

Have a happy and healthy day,
JP
JP you have hit a new low, you really should not skip your medication. According to you MOCO has always screwed it's customers, that includes you, even though you state that you know better. Sucks to be you. OK you researched HD's shameful actions before you bought your 15 HD, that make you an even bigger sucker.
You business model is warped, maybe you doubled down on your medication, dunno. HD has been in business since 1903, that's 115 years of screwing customers yet they exist. The fact that HD has been in business screwing customers for more than a century must be quite a mind boggling concept in your world.
Maybe the thin air in the peoples republic has final taken it toll on your brain cells, dunno.

WEll, I'll stick up JP. He's right about Harley. But there are reasons they get away with it. For one, it's their vast network of dealers, and these dealers have been taught marketing skills from Harley Corporate. Along with that, is the fact that there isn't another Manufacturer in America that has a dealership that is as vast, that sells ONLY motorcycles. So really, there isn't much competition. The only one that comes anywhere close is Honda. Polaris would be the next closest, I would think, because of the deep pockets they have. But some of these dealerships remind me of the1980's and earlier....buildings with old and repair-needing facades. And a mechanic with aptitudes that were only in vogue when the Shovelhead was popular.
I have learned that before you even start to talk price, go into the shop area and look at it. How many bays are there? How many techs do you see? What kind of Parts inventory do they have , and where is it? If those numbers are minimal, the what kind of turnaround time do you think you are going to receive on warranty and service maintenance work?
