Yesterday me and the wife piled on the 2018 RGU and rode the Ortega Hwy over to San Juan Capistrano and back, total a little over 100 miles. I decided to do the curves in 3d gear, using only engine braking. Riding as hard as being loaded to max GVWR permits. Ambient temps around 75f. Bike is bone stock.
RPMs kept above 3500 all the way, mostly above 4k, with many pulls in the straights to redline. I must say, the FI on this bike is very excellent. There is no perceptible notch; scalpel-like throttle modulation in the turns. And, the engine is very smooth all the way to redline, smoother than any bike I've ever owned. Most other engines get real grainy near redline, but my M8 doesn't. It stays smooth and pulls hard all the way.
All the proclaimed factors for a bone stock M8 tourer to sump to death, but my bike would not sump. I stay aware of what my motor is doing, fully expecting it to sump, so I think I would notice any changes in operation pretty quick. On the final approach to home we rode the interstate at sustained 85 mph, went straight to the garage and checked the oil. I got a normal oil level with no frothing on the dipstick, and no overheating.
At going on 13k miles I am confident that my M8 has no design flaws, no assembly flaws (that I haven't already found and fixed), and will never let me down.
That had to be a fun ride at spirited levels. The only thing I miss of SoCal is the canyon roads of old. Spent many a day on Ortega, Santiago, El Toro, Black Star, Hwy 2, 39, 18, 38 and many others. Was a great time in the late 70's. But my 1978 E-Glide and Sporty broke on me everytime I attacked those wonderful roads. My RD's, Duc's, BMW's and other Asian bikes never left me stranded. But the Harleys and Brit bikes were the cause of more than a few side of the road partys. Was a great time in my life!!!! Wow that brought back memories. Thank You.

We moved out here to SoCal last April. The roads are generally in better condition than NM but are much more crowded. The best thing is the weather. Here it is late Nov and perfect riding weather. We just have to be a little patient at times because the traffic always does slow down, and thank God for ability to split lanes!
