Oh yeah, C1018 would warp like crazy if you milled along the length. Too soft anyway.
4130 steel has more strength primarily due to 2 elements present in it, namely;-
1.) Molybdenum - 0.15 to 0.25
2.) Chromium - 0.80 to 1.10
The above elements provides the strength that a SAE 1018 grade steel doesnt.
Additionally (not the sole reason), the carbon content is higher in 4130 grade - .28 to .33 compared to 1018 grade with carbon content of .15-.20.
One point to keep in mind is that adding more carbon to steel does not necessarily make it stronger; if added beyond a point, it can make the material extremely hard, but also brittle, and hence not desirable.
Why not put a vent on trans and primary and eliminate any pressure differential.

Guess I'll have to try a rod without a flat...
There are posts from people with problem transfer issues under warranty. They claim they have been fixed because a MoCo Rep installs a vent on the primary.
A couple pics have been posted... some look terrible, some not so bad..
I made a slot on the inside of the side cover at the 7 o'clock position of the actuator pocket for oil to drain out of the pocket. Also added a primary vent. So far no more transfer and this bike was a heavy transfer.
