Just wondering if anyone is using a K&N HD-1717 air filter with a stage 1 or even 11? Would it work good for both these applications? I like that ! can keep my breather looking stock on my 107 LTD. Thanks, Dutchy

i replaces the oem filter and backplate with the 1717 and stage 1 backplate and it made a pretty good difference in opening it up, oem felt horribly restrictive. Will go stage something eventually but so far well worth it.

I just went stage 1 using that exact air cleaner along with a FP3. Was only 56.00 so saved lots.

How did you get just a stage 1 back plate? Is that piece available from a HD dealer just on it's own? Part number?
Thanks,
Dutchy
I run stage 2 with the HD-1717 filter. No problems and no noticeable difference between a ness big sucker AC. My bike pulls hard and can bump third and chirp fourth. I have an external catch can, so thats my main reason for the K&N. That plus I like the stock air box looks and also hate the extra noise thru the throttle body when its removed. To each his own.

The HD-1717 is a replacement for the stock filter on the stock back plate, how did you fit the 1717 to a stage 1 back plate ?

Heads up... Compare the build quality between the OEM and the K&N. I actually crushed two of the three mount tubes (that the screws go through) by torquing the screws to 45 in/lbs as per the K&N instructions. I had removed it for cleaning and treatment and it broke when I put it back on. Luckily,I still had the OEM one and put it on, only after checking my torque wrench though.
The OEM version has full metal tubes (roll pins, actually) and is of a much stronger build. Yeah, the K&N has much more surface area and is much lighter in weight but if this going to be a thing, well, I dunno. Has this happened to anyone else?
I will be calling the K&N toll free number as soon as they open, today. Will update on how this goes.
