Default Oil Pump Revision and Differences?

Hello All,
For those of you that have info on the latest revision 4 oil pump I have some questions. Please no wild guesses, just facts if possible. Yes we all know the pump has been changed or revised a number of times. My dealer said they are on the 4th revision. From what I have read, there is a new o-ring seal involved in the newest pumps. Can anyone explain facts.....as to what the differences are from the original pump to the latest revision? Does the o-ring seal the surface of the pump to the crankcase or the cam plate? For those of you that have had your pumps upgraded, was it just the pump or the cam plate as well?

Thanks in advance,
Eagle Out

Latest assembly has an O-ring and a seal on the back plate of the Oil pump. These try to seal the crankshaft area from the cam chest area but there is still some leakage through the camshaft bearing. The new sealing, seals the oil pump back plate to the crankshaft main bearing race itself and the O-ring seals the plate to the crankshaft. None of the new seals contacts the cam plate itself. Does it work to solve sumping.......... some say yes others say NO.

Steve, Whats your opinion on the breather hose installed near the oil stick, seems to me that if you needed to let the engine breath it would be better to adapt a breather oil stick as someone posted them on another thread.

I saw the Tman video where he tapped the oil spout and ran a hose. If there is a vented dipstick option that would be a lot better in my opinion. Any info on that?

In the video they say they had it in the cap, but the aluminum cap was too hot to touch for checking the oil.

Venting the oil pan has been around for many years. The trick is to keep the oil in and the pressure out, some do it better and some do it worse. I would not want a vented dipstick as the oil fumes have to go somewhere and if its at the stick, I fear that you would end up with oil accumulation around that area. To see how much pressure there is just remove the oil dipstick and start the bike up and see what comes from the hole left with no stick in.
