If I install after market slip on on my 2017 Road Glide, will I have to retune my bike?
Thanks,
Bob
maybe, depends..there's no guarantee every slip-on made will play nicely..some might work great and others might..
.fwiw, our dealership has advocated V&H Monster Rounds as being ones that have worked very well for them over the years and my buddy with a 17 Road King put them on and they indeed do..pretty safe bet as far as I'm aware
Bicard, No retune required. In some cases you can even put in/on your new air filter and not retune. The computer with make up for the changes. Add in a new head pipe or de-cat header pipe and a retune it definitely going to be needed. Just my experience, yours may be different.
MJ has it right. Mufflers can influence exhaust back pressure in varying degrees. There is no blanket statement to be made here. Buy what you want and see how the bike does with them. If nothing feels adverse and there is no popping on decel, you'll be fine without a tune. The two most common anomalies on a stock-tuned bike with aftermarket muffs is a weak torque curve on the bottom end, and/or popping on deceleration.
I put V&H Slip On's on my Low Rider without a tune. A little popping on deceleration, but nothing I can't live with. No loss in power or torque that I can sense. I am going to put a breather on it and am told I'll need a tune then.
Yes, that is what they claim, once u add a breather. I had an 11 classic with a stage 1 download. i added the 255 cams, didnt go to the stage 2 download and it ran great. Now my wifes 18 street glide has a stage 1 and she is running breather, S.E. smart tuner and a 2 into 1 rinehartt. It is to rich. Ill clean her muffler, go for a ride and by the time we get back, i run my finger around the muffler and its loaded with black soot. Her mileage is good and runs good, but i believe its a little to rich. I have the cables to put in a download, and i'am looking how to put it back to the stock download. If u are going thru the dealer, they will claim warranty. I personally wouldnt put a stage 1 download in till i drove it and seen how it works.
