Default Factory warranty ends today - 2 year report

I just now realized that today marks my 2nd anniversary of ownership of my '17 RGS. Overall, it's been a great two years. I haven't ridden as much this year as I would have liked to, but my free time and the weather just haven't lined up well. Still a few months of the riding season left in the year to make it up.

I just completed my 15K service. The oil was very clean and clear (5K miles on 20W50 Kendall GT-1 Competition Conventional oil) and there were only a couple of fine strands of metal on the magnetic drain plug, primary and transmission fluids (HD Formula +) look great and are right on the full line (changed last at their respective services), original tires look to have another 4-5K left in them, and the rest of the checks like belt tension, etc. were good. Took the clutch and brake lever pins out for full lubrication, lubed the shift lever pivot, jiffy stand, and anything else that rubs metal-to-metal. No abnormal wear anywhere. The brake and clutch fluids were flushed and changed earlier this spring.

There were really only two concerns during my ownership thus far that were considered warranty. One was the clear covering peeling off of the horn cover applique, and it was replaced under warranty. The other was a chunk of paint that fell off of the rear fender. The dealer originally stated that they would cover it under warranty. Once it was determined that it could not be repaired and a new, factory-painted fender would have to be installed (I have the Hard Candy Red Hot Flake paint), HD suddenly denied the claim. My dealer stepped up and paid half of the $720 cost of the fender and installed it for free. Not ideal but I wasn't going to live with a chunk of paint missing from my bike.

My bike still looks like it just came off the showroom floor. I have roughly 6K miles on my FM build, and the engine is quiet and powerful. I absolutely love how that kit transformed my bike into the beast it is today. So fun to ride.

The only mods I've done beyond the 120 big-bore kit was to install the Rockford-Fosgate 6x9 lid kit, front speakers, and amp. Another worthy upgrade that I have no regrets spending the money on. I have left my bike stock-looking for the "sleeper" look.

I keep my bike meticulously cleaned. It is power-washed often. Yes, power washed. Why? I never have to do paint correction because sponges, microfiber, etc. never touch the paint. I blow it dry after using a spot-free rinse.

I don't think I will ever trade this bike. Of all the different bikes I've owned, this one has been the best. I may add another one to the collection at some point, but this one is a keeper.

In close, my ownership experience has been a very positive one. No regrets.

we're a month away from 3 years on ours..be over 70,000 miles combined by then..our oil cooled 107s have been 100% trouble free, if you don't count several wheel bearings, 5 clutch switches, 2 sets of Street Canons, warped front brake rotors, 2 cracked heat shields, heads replaced, 2 recalls, minor trans fluid transfer...LOL..and yet have never been towed or had a vacation ruined...we kept them all SE Stage 1 and have 4 years left on our ESPs and glad we got them! no bitchin', whining, pissing or moaning from us...we've loved every mile on them and been all over the place, rain, sun, mud, snow, gravel roads you name it!

Glad your bike has been great to you. Good looking bike you have
Good washing drying techniques with quality products don't induce paint marring. Improper techniques and cheap MF, walmart auto parts store, do.

True That, Its not so much what you put on your paint, but More what you don't put on your paint...

My two year factory warranty is up next month, Actually I didn't use it. But anyways, my 2018 Road Glide Special has nearly 41,000 miles, been x country coast to coast twice, I ride rain or shine, bike shows wear on fork legs and fender rock chips from riding close formations numerous times,

Clutch recall done, tech scratched up the exhaust heat shields when he loosen the header pipe for access. got new ones for his actions.

Played with 4 fat clutch rods, my bike did not like 3 of those. Now I run the primary vent so no issues there.

I upgraded the cam chest to current and a HD stage II cam, later I upgraded that cam to a woods cam and lifters... SWEET! The Bagger cam pulls like a freight train. Tuned with PV and FM map....

Other than that its Been Tires, gas and Oil and lots of rebel Yells going down these Great Highways.... Good Times!

MJ, what kind of handlebars are on tat Road King? The look a little like the Police Heritage bars on the old Heritage models.

And great picture by the way!

My warranty ended end of June as well as my two year 20k mile service plan. I'm gonna miss that!

No warranty issues reported other than some initial tranny transfer issues. They monitored it for a several service intervals and I havent worried about it since. It may stay a bit low, but I'm still riding. 2 years and 15000 miles later and I love this bike. The only complaint I really have is the "sewing machine" sound from the top end. I'm OCD when it comes to cars/bikes rattles and noises. lol Contemplating a big bore kit which might take care of that noise, but not this year.

Less than a year after purchase, I did the aftermarket stage 2 upgrade and its so much fun to ride! 2 weeks ago I upgraded my audio system and now that thing is loud and clear no matter if I'm going 35 or 90 mph.

Now if I can just find me an evo dyna or even an early TC to scoot around town on.......

Glad you are enjoying your bike as much as I have my two M8's.

"Took the clutch and brake lever pins out for full lubrication " Can you come service my bike? I must be lazy, don't think I've EVER done it that way!

Ride safe!
