I would like to know what generation oil pump my CVO Limited has? Build date 5/18 Dealer said I had the latest generation. I didn’t believe him. How many different generations are there?
The last count I heard was nine, but that was well over a year ago. I've been told that the 2020's have a "new" oil pump. So, since yours isn't a 2020, it doesn't have the "latest" version of the oil pump.
At least that's what I've been told. By the dealer. So there is that.

The latest and greatest version of the oil pump has been touted in the 2020 Model Year Technical Forum and says it is the OEM pump in all MY2020 M8s and MY 2019 models, with engines built after 5/22/19..
The service writer is who said that I had the latest oil pump. I didn’t believe he was right. He also said my oil level was too high. I know how to read a dipstick and oil level was low and I was monitoring it. I did add 8oz from leftover jug. Transmission oil was touching the add mark. They said it was good 18 CVO
When you added 8 ounces, was the engine fully warmed up, idled upright, not on the sidestand, for 2 minutes prior to shutting off? If not, you may indeed be overfilled. The engine must be warm and the pump allowed to scavenge the oil in the case prior to checking level.

Technically you may have the latest pump for the 2018's which is the one they haven't changed for a couple years now. Thing to check is if you have the new rear oil pump cover seal.
Regardless of all that, I would have the new MY2020 pump in hand and ready to use before even opening it up.
