Default M8 dry crank?

Hey guys, So after 3 back order extensions on my oil pump from HD, I had just by chance called locally to find a new version oil pump at a local HD. My question is, if you pull the plugs, and just want to crank the motor over, to ensure good oil pressure before actually wanting to add fuel and start bike, how do you do that with no fuse labeled fuel pump or fuel relay? I assume it's part of the system breaker, though I didn't tear into the wire diagram to confirm but it's definitely not isolated like older models from what I can see.

Thanks...

So if I understand this reply correctly, I'd pull the plugs, and crank the motor like I was going to start it but roll the throttle to wide open while I'm doing it? I've never done that before. If that's the case do I still need to ground all 4 of the ignition wires with test leads?

Thanks for reply

We do it all the time when working on the engine. On a M8 just remove two spark plugs, one from each cylinder. Then just use the starter switch to spin the engine over. It will only allow it to spin for about 15 seconds before it stop. If you need more than that just turn the key back off and wait a few seconds then repeat. If your going to keep doing it be careful not to overheat the starter.

How long is 3 back orders? Reason for asking is I have been waiting for 2 weeks now myself. Maybe I will call around myself. The bright side of this for me is I won't need it for 2 or 3 more weeks.
Anybody sitting on one that will sell? LOL

I ordered from Surdyke, but Newcastle wasn't any different. First one was like November 11th shipping, then moved to Nov 23rdish, then Dec 6th. When they told me Dec 6th, and that was no guarantee either, I started calling around locally, on Thanksgiving eve. I found a new latest rev pump, cam plate, gaskets, shim kit, spacer kit, orings, at one of my local dealers. Why he had one, of each I have no idea, maybe somebody was going to do it, changed their mind, went after market, etc, I couldn't say. I cancelled my order online, spent 25% more, lol, and spent a good part of Thanksgiving day working on this. Just now coming back to get exhaust, intake etc on and close to startup. I'm guessing the demand is going to all the new production bikes and warranty issues maybe, so the rest of us are kind of the last in line?

Can you tell me the part number and release on the latest revision? I ask because last year I had a major sumping issue and they replaced the pump and cam plate. I am about to be inside it for a cam, so if there is a better version, I may as well.

For the cam support plate assy....
25400133
For the latest oil pump with comes with the gerotors, and the new pump seal plate, as well as the pump housing it's 62400247
If you are doing this, especially with a cam change, make sure to buy the spacer kit listed below, and might as well get the two new bolts (sprocket hardware kit) for a couple bucks more.

It would be adviseable to also get the cam bearing replaced since your are putting a new cam in. Harley sells the upgrade bearing but they don't make it so it's just easy to buy the same bearing without Harley stamped on the box.
Amazon Amazon

You will have to have a couple tools, like the sprocket tooth locking tool and in your case the cam bearing puller. Both can be bought on Georges Garage. There are some knockoff tools on Amazon, that may do the job as well. Twin Cam locking tool is the same one you need.

Here's the installer and then you need the puller as well.

Just wanted to report that worked like a charm. Also learned that by going WOT the oil cooler fan kicks on, even with motor off, good way to hear if fan is actually working as opposed to getting off the bike and down on the ground. Thanks @Steve Cole & @Red

Did you ground the 2 outed plugs? Or just turn key and WOT with 2 plugs out?
Good news is my oil pump shipped.
