Hi,
I have noticed on the older Touring models that there is a Solenoid Starter button that you can install to bypass the starter handlebar switch. The shape of it does not fit the newer M8 bikes.
Been searching everywhere for one to fit my 2017 FLHTP but no luck, any pointers?
Thanks!
The reason I ask is because I get zero on the handlebar start switch with a fully charged new battery. I have to now strip the bike to get to the starter relay in the fairing and start troubleshooting that.
It would make it easier if I could install a switch and don't have to rely on the start switch and other components failing.
Ah ok thanks for that, you saved me some pain there.
I switch the run switch on and it clicks, then I hit the starter switch and nothing, not even a click. Pull in the clutch and do the same, (always with the sidestand up), same thing. switched the run switch off and on and tried again, just a click when you turn the run switch on and no sound from the starter and nothing. Battery is new and fully charged. Tried this whilst in gear with the clutch pulled in as well and same thing.
Sorry you can't find one. I have one on all 3 of my EVOs. I use the one on my UC every time because the start button is ****. Left me stranded the first time it happened at agas station 25 miles from home. Never again! Never used it on my Springer or my shovel, but it's on both.
Make sure battery is good with a proper tester. Clean the battery cables with sandpaper or wire brush. Make sure cables are tight even a little loose the starter will not work. The starter takes a lot of juice when starting and just a loose cable can prevent anything from happening. Check fuses take them out and look at them make sure they are clean. I hate electrical problems the most. Don't give up you'll find it. Sometimes it can be something simple.Next thing to check would be to take apart the handlebar switch and look for pinch wire or anything out of place. Start with obvious and work your way down.
