Hey guys! Long time reader first time poster as I finally couldn't find any existing info on a subject.
I just purchased a new FXFBS 114 and had an S&S 475 cam, lifters and rods, tuner and short shot exhaust installed as new. All was dyno'd and I love having an immaculate bike I can keep immaculate. But I'm noticing a lot of black soot buildup on the bike from the exhausts. I know short shots aren't the best for power, but love the look / sound of them, but the constasnt black soot on the rear wheel, brake disc and swingarm is disheartening. I cleaned it last night and took it for a ride after, only for almost all the black soot to be back when i got back from a short (2miles) ride.
Is this standard? Or is it running too rich? The dealer has been closed since I purchased the bike thanks to COVID lockdown so have been unable to contact them, posting here hoping someone might have some ideas.
Yeppa, sounds like running too rich. Did you do anything with the air filter system or is it still stock? Pull your spark plugs and see what they look like.
+fuel = power...you can reduce, but definitely have a loss. Short Shots are one of the shittiest exhaust - get something longer (e.g. 2-1) and the soot woes go away. Otherwise...invens in more cleaning supplies.
If u are getting soot build up in two miles u have a issue, im assuming your tune. If its that rich your bike would be lazy and u defiantly should see black smoke coming out of the exhaust. I would think u would look like a diesel spooling up, when u are on the road.

Correct, fuel is "one" factor, but if his AFR's off (rich) it's probably the cause of all the soot spewing out exhaust. OP states bike was dyno'd so surely running rich...f/ power or performance of some sort.
