So a little back history; Had the SE stage 2 torque cam installed not long after trading for my 2020 RGS. Bike ran good, but I was spoiled to the sound and performance on my 17 with the S&S 475c and FM headers.
Fast forward to jan this year and I decide the decat my headers I had left from the 17 after putting the FM headers on. I also changed to the SE spark plug wires, just as full disclosure to the only mods I've made beyond the stage 2.
Ever since I made the swap, the bike hasn't run very well. I thought it must be the limits on the SE tuner and or the torque cam. I even ran a couple of SE smart tunes, but it didn't improve the rough running.
So, I had the PV tuner nd thought I would go ahead and purchase the license to tune this bike, since eventually I'm going aftermarket cam anyway. I loaded the PV tune from FM and had hoped that would clear it up. It didn't. Talked to FM and they said I'd need to put a couple of tanks of gas through it before it cleared up. That was a few weeks before my Florida trip. I was a little concerned about such a long trip, but nothing catastrophic happened and we made it back.
The bike back fires and is very sluggish before it gets to running temps. When engine breaking, the bike "backfires" as well, which I hate that sound so Im not pulling the clutch in as soon as I know I'm gonna to slow down.
While in Florida though, I started noticing the bike would cut off immediately after cold starts. Then when starting it back up again, it would just miss so bad, let out a loud "poof" sound and white smoke would come up from the right side. I'm not positive where the smoke comes from. I thought the front cylinder at first, but since then to me it seems more like the breather, but I cant be certain.
I have the bike in the shop now for my 5k service and asked him to check it out.
I also submitted a FM map request and sent my PV auto tuned map from my bike to them. I've read a couple threads here about blown head gaskets and warped manifolds, but not sure at this point. Hoping maybe Jamie can comment, but plan on calling them this week any to discuss my map request.
I would check the spark plug wires/spark plugs and maybe put the old wires back on and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks. I did take off both front wire boots and clean them and the spark plug ends. If my indy doesn't find the issue that might be the next step before taking it to the dealership.

Did you double check that the new wires were plugged in the correct positions on the ignition coil?

hmmm I would expect it to not run good after warming up, but when I swapped them I swapped them one at a time. And I think the rear ones are too short to reach the fronts. Thanks though!

Ok, just double checking. The length of the wire doesn't really matter as the ignition coil end gets plugged into the same general area. Here's the illustration for reference.

Yeah thats true lol...I'll double check, but I'm sure if that is the issue, Jesse will find it.
That was gonna be my recommendation, take it to Jesse and let him figure it out, good luck, hope you get it taken care of!
Yeah he has it now. I'm just having him diagnose it. Someone suggested it might be a warped manifold. My buddy had a take off manifold that he gave me, so I'll take it to the dealer for that fix if that's the case.
Jesse still says it's the tune, so we'll see in a few days I guess.
