One of the major reasons people love shovelheads, Evos, etc. imo is prolly simplicity and the mostly 'mechanical' aspect of the engine. You can just remake and replace mechanical parts are the bike will survive.
They are not the most efficient but at least you dont hear "idle rpm has to be over x00 or the oil pump wont be sufficient and the bike will blah blah.. hence the efi rpm during idle'. This gets me thinking how much of the electronic are mandatory.
Let's say a M8 non touring bike, like a softail standard with ECM, BCM, IM and so many sensors and electronic functionalities...
If you wanted to turn your M8 softail into simpleton bike down the road, what are the bare minimum electronics and/or electrical setup that would still the let the motor and bike function?
Wise answers to a dumb and imprecise question would be much appreciated!
It's not oil. If it didn't idle in that range, there would be times it could die because it could not catch itself .
It needs it all. It's all interlinked.

Just in case you have not done this.
Add a Signature Line in your USER set up for your bike year, model, and all the letters that Harley recognizes it with so others see at the bottom of all your post. This enables others to know your exact model if you ever ask a question.
And a Avatar of your favorite shot in the USER set up for the small picture others will see in the top left corner of your post.
