now that to me would be a no brainer, completely worthwhile, probably even considered 'unsmart' not to

wether You need them or not they help with heat, throttle response,Horse power. Though might be very little on a 2020 stock, A 2007 with stage IV very noticeable. 2007 two big hoses one for each jug running to the ground and A1 cycle vented cap.2007 never had a problem ,This monster wants to breath!! Blew a crank shaft seal once.

on stock 2020 fueling vented cap, no optional hose needed so far and for the jugs a home made(cheap and quick) catch can made from brake fluid bleeder jar under the air cover that is getting a little bit of oil in it.

Thats my thoughts

I had the sumping issue and installed an external breather kit with catch can and hi flow air filter from DK to address it, in addition to the A1 vented cap. No regrets and no more oil across the exterior and no more constantly adding oil. Bonus was the noticable heat reduction felt on the right leg, it was crazy hot close to 300 most of the time now 225-235. Cost around $300 for parts, less than an hour in time and it was well worth it for me.

so on your Freewheeler you are convinced, after being able to validate somehow, that upon adding external breathers and vented dipstick that your Engine Temp dropped from ~300 degrees to ~230? I'm assuming you mean ET and not oil temp anyway...but either way having a hard time understanding how either of them would drop ~70 degrees from the changes you made..please elaborate how you came to these conclusions, thanks

Trying to cool it down was the first priority when I bought it, I didn’t like a semi-permanent burn mark the size of a grapefruit on my right calf all summer and I wasn’t wearing hooker boots to prevent it. I started with adding cooling wings, then the tank lift, then 1 side deflector on the right only. Every addition helped a little. I also had a digital dip stick that showed the OIL temp. I may be mistaken but I’m pretty sure I read a few yrs ago that after an hour riding engine & oil temp are the same. Those additions made a diff in my riding comfort but no effect on oil temp according to the gauge.

That changed after changing the air filter system, adding the external breather and vented cap, which I did a month before extended warranty ran out. Digital gauge never went above 235 after that any time I checked even on the hot days. I packed the digital gauge with me to check it and I checked it frequently, now I don’t bother. I have zero riding discomfort due to heat now where the first few years on hot days it was freaking near unbearable on that leg. I did see it back at 265 last summer riding in the BC mountains in 39°C weather however.

For the last two years I no longer have that burn mark on my calf and I no longer have a sick feeling in my stomach over the sumping, because now I don’t have to add oil after every ride and when I do oil changes my primary is no longer overfull every fricken time. Don’t get me started on dealing with the stupid-*** dealer on that problem! It also doesn’t have oil residue across the bike to clean up every ride. Like I said turned out to be a bonus that it took care of a lot of heat too.

You can believe the diff in temps or not, but it most certainly did make that much diff. I’m just sorry I didn’t do it sooner it had 30,000 km on it when I finally got the temp down and I’ve put 10,000 on it since. I don’t have near the experience that most of you guys have nor do I have the mechanic knowledge but I don’t think you need to have either to realize that kind of heat can’t be good for the longevity of any engine.

wow, that's a lot of stuff..my wife had that exact same Laguna Orange Freewheeler for 35,000 miles and having the OEM factory fan assisted oil cooler was good enough...didn't suffer like you have but glad you were able to sort things out enough to now enjoy it..interesting to the severity in variations people have in regards to heat tolerance levels..I've never been bothered by them enough to make changes..just been more of an occasional annoyance
