Motorcycle Insurance DiscussionThis is the place to discuss what type of Motorcycle Insurance you carry or any problems or good experiences you've had with certain companies.
Most of what I've seen on here seems to revolve around price, but I have a different question, limited only to people who have ever had to submit a claim. How was your experience when you needed to use it?
Thankfully I've not to have submitted any claims for my motorcycle, but several for my autos and one for my boat.
My son and wife are the main offenders for automobile claims. We've had Progressive and Geico, and both handled the claims without incident. And claims were spaced far enough apart to not have significant premium increases.
I still keep my boat policy with Progressive, and they processed a $3K claim for me this past summer- I was afraid of the renewal premium- but didn't need to be. Exact same premium I've been paying for the past decade.
Harley and the Cars are with Geico now, for me they were cheaper. Progressive was my main company up until a few years ago when my rates started to climb.
ive been pondering a change because my 2014 street glide is $89 per month where i am now
Geeze! That's over $1K yearly. Are you high risk? Had numerous claims? I realize my rate is good cause I'm a senior citizen now with no accidents or tickets and my 2016 RGU is $296 yearly with State Farm. Have also had Geico with a good rate but they pissed me off. Dairyland was actually the best price I ever got for a bike but for cages they only sell "high risk" and I couldn't afford their insurance for our cages. Progressive was more than 3 1/2 times what State Farm and Geico were. You really do need to sit down and spend some time on the phone with a couple of different insurance companies.
I am with Geico. I have been with them for several years now. I don't have experience with their motorcycle insurance claims, but I do with automobile claims. My son was driving my wife's Jeep, and somebody cut too close in front of him and hit the front bumper. The police ticketed the other guy, so his insurance paid the damages, since he was at fault. He had Geico. Man, they really took good care of us.
I have progressive, Crashed last April, bruised up some ribs and was in a lot of pain, but no serious damage to me. Bike was towed from the side of the highway, next day I went to impound lot and picked up bike on my trailer (thankfully towing guys helped push bike onto trailer). Called progressive and they sent an adjuster out the following day to my house. He surveyed the damage, took a lot of pictures of the bike and my riding gear. Sent me an e-mail estimate the following day, I had the option of accepting the estimate and he would just send me a check or there was some sort of challenge process. What they offered me for damages on the bike was $300 more than I paid for it the previous year, and they weren't considering it totaled so there was no salvage title. I accepted the offer, 3 or 4 days later I received 3 checks in the mail, one for the full amount of the towing, one for the replacement value of my helmet, jacket, riding pants, boots, and gloves, and one check for the damages on the bike less my $250 deductible. Whole process was very quick and easy, my rates only went up about $50 per year.

I have State Farm for the cars and truck, got hit head on by a guy about 3 years ago. He had State Farm and they took very good care of us. The car was a 1988 Toyota Carolla, they considered it a Classic Car and had to get some special appraiser to look at it. I had paid $250 for the car a couple years prior, done some crappy body work on it and put some new tires on, they gave me $3,500 for it.
Cut and dry. Bike was totaled , deer was dead I was not. Bike was worth xxx , extras were worth xxx. towing twice cost xxx hospital bills all paid in full, settled with in 5 working days. Insurance also replace safety gear. Came out a little better than expected.
Over a life there has been a few with cars never had a problem getting fair settlement.
