Geico insurance cautions

Geico insurance cautions
I had Geico for ten years, with no real complaints...but I switched (to AAA/Progressive) recently because of a restriction: I was told this last year, and several others confirmed it: if you have Geico MC insurance and ride long distances, check your policy! One of the exclusions, at least in some states, is riding >500 miles in 24 hours. Iron Butt riders beware.
The exact legalese: "From a policy: "... your motorcycle is used in, or in preparation or practice for: any marathon-type contest, use in any competition and/or sporting event, or while on any race course or facility designed for racing; or any contest which sanctions continuous riding for 24 or more hours and/or mileage accumulation in excess of 500 miles per 24 hour period.""
Also, my biggest complaint: check their accessory coverage VERY carefully. Do not believe the agent on the phone, because they probably have no idea what they're talking about...I discovered (after crashing my first Sportster) that the accessory coverage does NOT cover riding gear. In my case, that means I get to replace my riding jacket, pants, gloves, helmet, and boots (almost $1000) on my own dime.

That. I know have insurance through AAA (Progressive), and their accessory coverage explicitly DOES cover riding gear.

I never even thought about riding gear being covered. I assumed that was your own dime. I have Progressive. I’ll have to,look at it. But, hope I never need it,
Edit: But, how much can a pair of flip flops, gym shorts, and old T-shirt cost anyway?

In my case (squeaky clean driving record and good credit), Progressive is considerably more expensive.
This is impacted by so many variables, statements like "Best/Cheapest/Whatever....." are pointless.

Until your turn comes up after 11 years with them out of the blue they raised my rates to more than a person I know with 2 DUI and couple wrecks. No reason given. Funny part same week they raised my rates they sent me an email about being a good customer. GEICO gave me rates a little lower than before Progressive raised them. Seems they all play this game.

I know someone who has Progressive, and they covered his helmet and gear. The adjuster wanted to see them to make sure they were damaged. I'm guessing their reasoning is that protective gear is cheaper than skin and skulls. They're probably not the only one, just an example I'm aware of.
