My wife and I will be in Yellowstone next week at the Canyon Village area. \\; It will be our homebase for three nights. \\; \\; I planned one day to leave around 7AM and ride the Beartooth Hwy from our cabin to Red Lodge and then return late afternoon. \\; It shows about 220 miles round trip. \\; I know there are alot of twists and turns and no doubt scenery we'll want to stop and look at, but I want to make sure we aren't trying to cover too much ground in one day. \\; We really don't have an option so if it's too much, we may have to pass on this part of the trip. \\; I don't want to ride home after dark. \\; I don't want to find out why they named it the "Beartooth" pass first-hand. \\; Any thoughts?
You should definitely not miss riding the Beartooth. I think you have a good plan. Just be prepared for cold weather. The top of the pass is 10,947 feet, and you are well above the timber line. Rain and/or snow are very real possibilities, so be prepared. The weather can change quickly as well.
Have a great time and take pics. That whole area is a very special part of our country in my opinion.
You can do it in a day, we left Mammoth and went across bear tooth pass to Red Lodge, then down to Cody, WY then \\;back into the park by way of the east entrance and up to Mammoth in 1 day. Great ride!
I rode it in one day from Yellowstone's northern entrance and back, two-up on a springer classic wish i had my Ultra then. If you are in that area don't I repeat don't pass up on that ride, it will be worth it. \\;As mentioned in prior post be prepared for climate change.
I would take the day and do that trip. \\; My wife and I went from cody through the beartooth pass and to billings montana in 1 day with no problem. \\; I would recomend a jacket or sweatshirt. \\; We did our trip this week last year and there was snow on the sides of the road. \\; Have fun and enjoy the views. \\; Jon
In 06 my wife and I and some friends rode from Bozeman to Redlodge over the pass and then on to Sheridan, Wy. It was a hell of a long day (about 12 hours) but we had a blast. We were there \\;at about July 1st and we had jackets on and I saw some with chaps on as well. There was a lot of snow there, none on the roadway but there was some there. You should be able to make it, but I would start early. Have fun.
Agree with all of the comments - can be cold\\; could rain\\; but great ride and wonderful views. \\; In case you didn't know, next week is the Beartooth Rally in Red Lodge - 7/18-7/20. \\; See you there!
I live in Montana, and it's doable. \\; Get an early start. \\; I'd say, just as the son is popping up. \\; Two things, 1) Watch for game, deer, elk, bear, moose, wolfs, etc...have your camera in the ready position, and 2) be prepared for the elements. \\; I rode it two years ago in August and got my butt snowed on. \\; The touristos are going to be the biggest slowdown so be prepared to follow ma and pa Kettle for stretches.. \\; Ride safe and show us the pix. \\; CCRyder
