Arriving Rapid City Tuesday before the rally staying until 1st Friday of rally. One or two days downtown Sturgis during rally, then lots of riding the rest of the time. Looking for advice on must see locations and rides.
2nd the rain gear. Even if beautiful day when starting out it can turn bad fast.
Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments attract a lot of people and worth seeing.
TWO rides I recommend are
Iron Mountain
Spearfish Canyon
These are on all maps plus if you visit with others at bar you will find someone to go with who may have done them before. You should have good riding skills for Iron Mountain. It will wear you out but prolly the best ride in S.D. You will be making turns you never thought a road would have!!
Get to Rushmore before the crowds as well as Crazy Horse. I recommend riding the hills through Lead, Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon also get to Devils Tower, Hulett Wyoming. If you can stretch it out you go north on 212 from Hulett to Alzada Mt and have a bite at the Stoneville Saloon. Take 212 back to Belle Fourche and onto 79 and you'll end up at Full Throttle Saloon, Buffalo Chip and south into Sturgis.
I like doing rides in a clockwise manner so you are making right turns, counter clockwise has you doing left turns and may cause you a long wait if there's a stop sign.
custer national park , stop in town and get some carrots or apples and u can feed the donkeys !! Also stop at park office and ask where the buffalo are they are HUGE !!! The best road is NEEDELS HIGHWAY ! GOOGLE it !
