NY did the exhaust crack down last year, letters went to all inspection stations.
Since I moved, I know a couple of my local Indy’s, won’t even do inspections, even turned in the inspection station status,
NY came out with all new equipment this year, the buy in was really expensive, they now print all stickers on demand so it’s a complete system with printer.
It’s pushing everything to big dealerships, and my guess it’s going to be way easier to control them
I agree with what @Paintslinger16 said. Had a heck of a time trying to get my Street Glide inspected this spring. One shop said they wouldn’t risk it once they found out I had aftermarket exhaust.
On the flip side, my FIL had no issue at all bringing his to a dealer and having his inspected. He only has slip-ons, so not sure if that plays a role, but he mentioned there were a few other bikes getting stickers when he went there and they were far from stock exhausts.
With vehicles in NYS starting in 2024, they print the sticker on demand, as mentioned above. It prevents inspection stickers from being able to be “slapped-on” vehicles now. Since they have to be hooked up to the computer while it prints. Also runs facial recognition on the tech doing it, so they have to be registered with NYS. Kinda wild….but NYS.
I realize it's not so easy to just move but I still have to wonder why anyone would ever want to live in such a nanny state. While we're far from perfect in the Midwest I'm grateful I don't have to put up with nonsense like that.

Don't really want to live there, I personally am pushing for CT, which is only marginally better, even though its just as blue from the Greenwich money crowd...
But the NY area offers us: Family, friends, mountains, trees, fantastic drinking water, a huge metropolis - if you overlook the filth, homelessness and crime - you get some of the best restaurants in the country, culture, museums, etc. And plenty other reasons.
