The wife and I are planning a trip from Virginia Beach to Niagara Falls. Thinking about hitting Cleveland, then riding along Lake Erie to NF. Is there a good route that runs along Lake Erie from Cleveland to Buffalo? Or is there a more scenic route through Pennsylvania and New York to get to Niagara Falls? On our return route, we're heading through Hershey PA to hit Hershey Park. Thanks!
Ohio and western NY are very flat, the catskills and adarondack mts. in NY have some good riding and some nice/historic spots to stop for the night. on your way back down Rt. 209 from Saugerties NY to just north of Harrisburg PA is a nice road. what ever you do DONT camp at the Hershey camp ground the train goes through about every hour and blows the horn... and if you get around Newburgh/Newpaltz NY look me up
This is a link to a thread I started last year. I took a trip to western NY from south jersey. I had planned to go through the grand canyon of the east. Things went crazy on my trip and I ended up taking Rt6 the whole way across PA.
RT 6 was a great road to ride. I road RT15 in north central PA on the way back and it was very nice. Some of Rt15 is 65mph limit so it moves quick.
There was some nice suggestions here. I plan on visiting some of these areas this summer.
My wife and I shipped our Harley to the USA in 2003, for the Centenary celebrations. Can't help you with choosing a route (we crossed into Canada at Sault Ste Marie, North Michigan), but can recommend viewing the Falls from the Canadian side. The boat ride is quite something!
Just some suggestions. The plant at York, Pa. a nice stop. Route 147 on the eastern side of river, north from Harrisburgh, a pretty ride. Route 15 north to route 6 not bad. After Williamsport this road climbs with some beautiful vistas. Route 6 west not bad. If you stop near wellsboro try to stay outside of town, cheaper, but resturants scarce.. Western side of Jamestown, NY has a lot of motels; a HD dealer on eastern side. Route 394 to Lake picturesque, nice. At lake you can either go north or south along lake with several beach and ports along the way.
Road this route a couple years back and after this may do it again this summer.
Route 6 across PA is really a nice ride too....Make sure to check out the Grand Canyon of the east in Wellsboro Pa
Route 6 is very nice !. Grand Canyon of the East in Wellsboro isn't that great. Just a "stop by and go" sightseeing, but you'll need to go to Letchworth State Park by entering the South Entrance at Portageville which is 17 miles long and exit at North Entrance at Mount Morris. Now, That's called huge 'Grand Canyon of the East'. Here's the link.
