My bike is a 1991 FXSTS ( I know this not the sioftail site ,but there's more people on here )
Today I was at the auto store buying oil . I always buy castrol 20-50 4 stroke motorcycle engine oil, but today I noticed the picture on the container was that of a crotch rocket bike , very likely liquid cooled .
Would the one oil be designed for both liquid cooled and air cooled motorcycle engines ?
Since they dont mention either on their website ,or container the oil is probably to be used in both .
Can anyone give me any information ?
Thanks , Neil
There's a guy on youtube named Kevin Baxter. He has a series of videos on multiple subjects including oils. Look him up. You'll be interested in what he has to say.
They probably just put the picture of the sport bike on there for decoration. Most liquid cooled bikes including sport bikes take 10w40 and most air cooled bikes use 20w50.
Every one of the numerous owners manuals Ive had recommended a specific Diesel rating compliance 20W50 oil which the original H D oil has!
I still use this on all my older Harleys, but switched to Syn 3 on the Milwaukees.
