SYN3 Question... This isn't if I should use or not
This is NOT a "Which oil is best thread". I've made my own decision on this thank you very much.
I got tired of having to buy three different lubricants for the scoot so I switched to SYN 3, which is nice because it is one lubricant for everything.
Everybody I'm sure has noticed that when you shift Harleys they make a clunk sound which is normal. But since I switched to SYN 3 the clunk sound during shifting is louder than it used to be. Is this normal? and have any of you noticed this on your scoots?
RE: SYN3 Question... This isn't if I should use or not
Yes, since switching to Syn3 in all three holes,my '06 RKC also shifts louder than it used to - - however, it also shifts much more smoother as well. I guess I just need louder pipes

If that's what ya want, that's what ya get. 20/50 is too thin for the tranny. It's also not the best for the primary, but as you indicated..... you've made your decision.
My decision is to use AMSoil, but I agree that Mobil1 is good too.
RE: SYN3 Question... This isn't if I should use or not
Do you know what oil was in the tranny before? If it was Formula+ or a gear oil they are thicker than the Syn3. By putting a thinner lubricant in there it transfers more sound and is completely normal. I know a lot of folks who run 20W-50 in all 3 holes and I've never seen a single problem related to lubrication in any of them.
(I think it's been pretty well established that just about any oil will make a Harley happy!)
RE: SYN3 Question... This isn't if I should use or not
Not trying to talk you away from Syn 3 but I know that both my indy and the local shop guys have said that even Harley is backing away from the Syn3 in all three holes recomendation. I see they still advertise it in the 08 catalog but apparently have stopped pushing it as an option to the service departments. If you want to go Harley, I would suggest Formula+ at least in the tranny.

Yep, Not like it matters but my dealer is now pushing Formula+ for the tranny and Syn3 for the engine. I noticed since switching to Formula+ my bike shifts smoother and the clunking is gone.
