Default Oil cooler adapter

I have a '01 Road King Classic. I purchased a Harley Davidson brand oil cooler kit from Harley. I have followed the instructions carefully installing it on the bike. I have installed the adapter with proper alignment of the gasket twice, once without permatex and once with permatex. Both times it leaked like crazy. Yes, I tightened to proper torque specs.
Has anyone else had this problem? I am baffled!!

I'm having the same problem right now. Did you have any luck? Did it work out? What did you have to do?

Thanks

I think you are talking about the adapter that come on the late models from the factory. I put one on my '09 and the one thing I noticed is it is really hard to keep the gasket lined up when installing it. Are you sure its where it needs to be?

Any news on this? I have developed the same issue. It started early this year and is a slow leak, but drives me nuts. It only leaks after prolong runs.

I put the Harley Davidson brand oil cooler kit from Harley on my 2000 FLHT Std. six months later took bike in for service and dealer said it would be better to run without it and offered me a refund but would not explain why. I took the refund and now rethinking about what to do.

i know if you don't want it to leak you need to tighten it up alot more than the directions are telling you. i really torqued mine to about 28 ft. lbs. at first then put a ratchet on in and snugged it up some more. just don't go nuts on it, it's screwing into the right hand engine case.

just wanted to mention that the late 13 and 14 to current adapter is alot better than the earlier ones. they use an o-ring instead of a gasket.

I had that problem when I installed my oil cooler on my 06RG. Turns out that the adapter has to be tilted more forward so it seats down properly. If it's rotated back toward the engine it won't compress the oil seal properly.
