Default Changing Oil ?

Hi guys, i have my service manual and have procedure pretty much straight for oil change on my 05' deluxe with one exception.. Can oil plug be pulled with bike on jiffy stand or should i have someone hold it upright/level to allow it to drain? If this is covered in service manual, apparently i missed. Also, curious as to why manual says to go ride, then stop & let idle for 1-2 minutes before shutting off and pulling oil drain plug. Couldn't you just start and let idle for a couple of minutes, then shut off, and then pull plug, or is it imperative to RIDE bike first, then idle, then pull plug? thanks again. mb

Default RE: Changing Oil ?

You must ride it to warm it up no doubt which should be done with any motor, it'll take a few miles to get the oil to operating temps, then you must idle it straight up to purge the engine sump of any oil and pump it up to the tank, then you must hold it upright to drain the oil other wise you will not drain it all because of the horse shoe shape of the tank

If you are by yourself and no lift, the plug can be pulled on the jiffy stand and then you sit on it and hold it straight up to drain it.
