Default Transimission Fluid

I have so much to learn here, but one (or two) quick question(s):

I'm debating on which transmission fluid to use:
1) Mobil1*Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90
2) Mobil1*Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-140
3) Redline heavy shock proof

I live in Wisconsin and that's where the majority of my riding will happen...Midwest mostly.

Additionally, I've settled on Mobil1 synthetic V-Twin 20/50 for the crank and the same for the primary...thoughts????

Rotella for the primary. Cheaper and clutch grabs better. Shockproof in the tranny. Once you use it you won't go back to anything else.

100% agree. Rotella & Shockproof. Also suggest Valvoline VR-1 dino in the engine- 1/3 the cost of M1 VT & better UOA's.

I use Golden Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum 6-speed Transmission Oil. The only downfall is that it can be a pain in the butt to find.

+1 on the Shockproof. With Harley oil finding neutral is a PITA. With Shockproof it's first time every time.

I would use the least expensive gear oil you can find in the trans. Probably Rotella 85w140 which is about $4 a quart at Walmart. Any GL5 gear oil exceeds the GL1 spec for a HD trans by a mile. If you do run the RL shockproof then leave it in there for 20,000 miles minimum.

because the tech at Redline says 30,000 miles and I am being conservative. That lubricant is so durable it will easily go 20k.

i see you're from wisconsin. do you have a fleet farm near you? i just use the fleet farm brand farm tractor gear lube in my trans. no transmissions take abuse like farm tractors do. can't beat their prices too.
