Default Oil Loss. This happen to anyone else?

I just got back from a 5 day, 2400 mile motorcycle tour of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edwards Island. It was a great time with 10 plus hours in the saddle everyday. Fun!!!

I did though have one day that concerned me. On the second day of the trip we were going through the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia and I noticed a good amount of oil coming out of the air filter. (No this is not another one of those threads) This was the first time it's come out in this volume, so I was a little concerned. That night I checked the oil to see how much oil I lost and it was down over a quart. There is no way over a quart of oil came out of the air filter in one day. While there was a good amount on the side of the bike, it was not what I considered to be a full quart amount.

Luckily we were in a good sized town that had an auto parts store and they had 20w-50 in stock. I bought two quarts (in case it kept happening) and put a quart into the bike. From that point forward there was a little oil coming out of the air filter, but nothing like it had been. A drop here or there like it's always done.

I checked the oil ever day from that point and it stayed full of oil. So now I'm confused. What would make the bike eat a full quart of oil and then be fine from that point forward? That doesn't make sense to me.

For reference she's an 06 Road King Classic with an Arlen Ness Big Breather.

Any thoughts?
