I have a 99 FXDWG and need to change the oil. If i look under the bike on the right side, (as if setting on the seat), there is a plug all the way to the right on what apperas to be the pan thats headed straight up, then to the left side of that there is a plug on the side of that pan thats horizontal, then there is an allen type bolt alittle farther back. Which plug do i remove to change the engine oil?
Sorry for the basic lame question but i am 60 miles from a HD dealer and dont want to end up draining the fluid out of the primary instead of the crankcase.
if you are sitting on the bike, its on the left to the rear, and its horizontal, to the oil flows out to the left rather than straight down.... on my 05 WG at least.
If you are 60 miles from a dealer and what to do the work yourself... do yourself a favor and pick up the service manual.
also, tq on the drain plug - 15 inch lbs will do it. (15 is right in the middle of th range the manual provides)
Also, do it while the oil is still warm from a ride so more of it comes out, and make sure to pull your dip stick to keep a vacuum from forming (just makes it take forever to drain on both these items, and with the warm part, it may not all come out... I think "stuff" may be suspended better as well)
