Default Okinawa Harley Info

Hows it going all, Heading back to Oki at the end of Oct. Looking to buy a Harley. I know bringing one over is too expensive. I figured buying a used one over there that is already set up inspection wise is the smartest choice. Any help with the search info wise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was stationed on the arm pit of the Pacific from 1976 to 1978. We used to buy and sell to other military persons that were getting transfered out. Not sure were you are going but the air base is huge with a lot of stuff for sale.

another member currently stationed in The Rock just bought one over there. If you have a sponsor, maybe have him give you some contact info for one of the rider's there?? Another option is the Motorcycle Safety office there who should know who the riders are and who might be selling.

I'm currently in Oki with III MEF.
Bought my current bike from ENCS here on Island.
Best way to go if you want new.
If you want to bring a bike over with you, bring an older one much easier and cheaper to make legal.
Remember, we use KPH so your speedo (along with other things) has to be swapped out.

Also, check out this forum http://www.ggok.com/bbs/
Its a local biker forum for US riders here in Okinawa.
Lots of sport bike guys on there but we have a few hard core Harley riders.
Great info on importing bikes.

Used Harleys are available here but they aint cheap.

Default Harley panhead/shovelhead engines

I am in Oki now until the begining of 2010. I am wanting to boild a bobber and would to use a Shovelhead or Panhead engine. If you know of any used ones with a tranny please let me know. On that note if you need something out here that is Harley related i will try my best to help out, especially for fellow service members.

FYI

ENCS is no longer authorized to import (into Japan) 1 HD's.
Japan cracked down on noise and emissions so no more new HD's will be brought into Japan.

5 HD's are still available but almost impossible to take back to the US.

Looking forward to meeting you when you arrive.
The sticker on the speedo should work.
Also need a different headlight for driving on the left side of the road.
Exhaust MUST be stock and packed with steel wool to pass the noise test.
Bike would have to go to mainland for emissions testing. Big bucks for that.
I guess you have been reading this on ggok.

You need anything from this end, let me know.
