Chucky darn..sounds like theLakeview routewouldn't be a good choice...back to the road atlas.I've got 28 days toplan a route....plus pack/unpack/repack. I'm stressing out and haven't even left yet[:@]
It's fairly good two lane all the way Barb. There just isn't a lot of scenery and not much in the way of twisty turnies. You might look at going to Lakeview over to K Falls and down 97. Another alternative might be 84 to Baker, 7 and 26 to John Day, Prineville, Redmond, and 97 to K Falls and Weed. Haven't checke mileages that way but would be a lot more scenic.
Weather today in Mt. Shasta is partly cloudy with a high of 59. The next week is forecast to be partly cloudy withs Highs mid 60s to mid 70s and lows mid 30s to low 40s.
I'm not a big fan of twisties. Will probably doJordan Valley to McDermott and I-80 to Sparks. Turn off and go to Susanville and over to Mt. Shasta.Think maybeLakeview/Burns/Caldwell coming home. From Burns I'm familiar with. What's the thoughts on those routes?
Both sound okay to me. My first ex wife was from Burns but have never been from there to Ontario. I have been Weed to Susanville once, all mountains. Doesn't matter which way you go, you'll have desert to cross. When are you leaving?
I'm thinking sunny and 80's kinda thoughts... I am so fired up for this trip.

I have a friend who went to Lassen a few weeks ago and said the roads were clear but some snow still on ground. Should be good to go by the time we get there.
I headed over the Cascades this morning for a days worth of work in central Washington....it frickin" snowed last night down to about 1000'! But I'm not detered...ride naked!!!

To all who have not checked lately-according to the Lassen Park website they expect the road to open on memorial weekend. That means 1 week later we should have a pretty "cool" ride. Keep in mind that with the snow banks on the side of the road it is like riding through a refrigerator. But this is usually only for a few miles at the summit area. Should be fun.
