I hear really good things about the Toucan's over on advrider.
I'm wearing the Forma Terra Low's atm and am really enjoying them but I've seen a couple of reports of the brace blowing out under hard use (I have had zero issues in about 5K miles, no real off road use though).

I finally decided on the Toucans. I can return them locally to Cyclegear if I don't like them. They said I could do that with as many boots as I like until I find one I like.
Im not sure any of the ones you listed are going to be much lighter than the Gaernes....and definitely not any safer. Theyre all along the lines of a full MX boot. If you want a lighter adventure boot, I think youll have to give up some protection.
I've ran through 2 pair of Sidi Adventure GTX boots, and I absolutely love them. I replaced the last pair with Alpinestars Tech 7 Drystars, but they're so bulky they've become my off road boots. Going to order a fresh pair of Sidi Adv 2's here soon.

I was looking at those and if the Toucans don't fit the bill, those are next on the list to try

the Toucans are nearly half the weight of the SG12's
