panz4ever, I was admiring the pics of your front fender and noticed that the Electra Glide script looked really low on the fender. Checked mine and there is a good 3/8" space from bottom of tail on the "G" to the top of the trim and 3/4" from bottom of letters to trim. Looks like the tail on your "G" is actually touching trim?

Been that way since I have owned it.. the aftermarket fender tip is raising the spears a bit.

...and factory photos look similar

Another not quite so blurry

and one more...just a very small gap at best

And finally one from a real survivor (OP 65 FLH)

Wheels and Hubs

Late model hubs ('58+)

...and the difference between the earlier ('44? to '57)

Proper parts required for rebuilding hubs

I used Buchanan stainless spokes (should be cad plated). I do not want to have to pull them apart again, relace and whatever cuz the cad plating wears off in 20 years.

Wiring Passing Lamps/Spot Lamps

For 65 the switch for the passing lamps/spot lamps gets mounted here

I am using this...

Using the 1968-1969 wiring diagram...

..there are 2 places to run the wires from the lamps to the front terminal board. Black wires can either go to #12 or #29.

So if I run the black wire from the switch to one of the terminals and connect the black wires from the lights, that figures out half the equation.

This is the only diagram I have from way back when I decided to mount the running lights

So the question is where do I run the red and/or the green wire? The old diagrams (58 and earlier) show all three wires from the switch being used.

Having a heck of a time (for some reason) trying to integrate the old and the new.

its a judgment call at some point - we do what we know to be correct even if its not exact

Solved the issue on the wiring of the spotlamps.

Went to another forum I frequent and read all 32 posts regarding passing lamps and came up with this after reading the posts:

1. Run the passing lamp left and right wires to post #12.

2. Run the black wire from the switch to post #12.

3. Connect either the red or the green wire from the switch to post #10.

4. Tape off the end of the red or green wire that is not used.

This essentially makes it independent of the headlight components. And because it is "hot" all of the time (even with the iginition off) I just need to remember not to have them on without the bike running. Should not be a problem remembering that. The only other suggestion was that with the wiring as I laid out (and was done by many dealers who added the lamps), MoCo recommended against running the passing lamps with the high beam headlight. Too much of a draw.

Intend to wire it today in the manner described and use my test meter to see if current flows the way it should.

And it can now be officially (and finally) classified as a "roller".

Thanks Architect.

Gonna try to get the basic wiring done this week and do a fitment with the nacelle in place. Need to figure what bolts I still need to have replated as well as the windshield components.

Looking for recommendations on fork oil as well
