Why not run an o-ring chain? Yes I know they are heavier and wider but they fit. I have one on my 66 and not a glob of grease anywhere.

That piece of the frame is definitley flat on the underside. Not just flat but worn through on the bottom. Couldn't figure out a way to make it look right with a fix, but let it slide since it has no bearing on anything as far as putting the bike and sidecar together.

Side car attaches in these three places; that tube has no function

Upper and lower on the front down tube

Rear mount attaches to the swing arm

Guess just because it is NOS and will look cool if I run it and it shows up on page 26 in the '65 Accesoory Catalog?

Whats the purpose of that tube then? I always thought it was sidecar related, just learned another thing about these bikes.

What does the sidecar frame attach to at the rear of the bike? I can't tell in the pic.

'58-'72 they used this hole off the rear fork

and used this bolt and clamp (nut attaches on the inside)

In 73 with the change to the squared rear fork, they added a two-piece clamp and then in 79 it appears to have changed again as did the brace that goes from the sidecar frame to the top clamp. The two components that appear to have remained constant are the upper and lower down tube mounts.

Wasn’t that short tube used for the screw jack that I’ve seen before (in one of the easyriders tips books)?

Good recall sir. Just checked Vol 1...sure enough, page 105 gives the whole skinny on the jack.

Have to add that I am not sure how comfortable I'd be putting the bike on the sidestand and using the jack to change out a rear tire

Just been looking for it myself, knew I’d seen in somewhere.

managed to pick up a center stand but although it’s shown in the parts book up to 84, my 77 sits too way too low (std 12” shocks) to use it. Shame, it would of been easier to have the bike upright in the tiny UK garages we have

cheers-jon

JonB I don't think it makes the bike upright from reading thru the tech tip article. What it does it lift the bike on the right side, (the jiffy stand takes all the weight) so that you can removce your rear tire or adjust your rear wheel chain.

johnjzjz, not sure about how well it will work either but hey, worth a try. Figure once I get the sidecar business worked out I will put the 65 on the lift and see what it takes and if it is really a good idea.

That explains the hole in the bottom of the tube. I want one of those jacks! Not to use but to have in the toolbox with whatever else would've been been in the tool kit.
