Sorry Panz, didn’t make myself very clear, Yes, you’re correct with the use of the jack. I’ve managed to get an original center stand that bolts between the lower frame ears.

It fits all the solid mount swing arm frames (v twin make a repop as well) but my bike sits too low to be able to lift it over the stand.

might look to see if it can be modded

Saddlebags...and the learning curve deepens

Lid for stepped side bag on the right and lid for smooth side bag on the left.

Smooth side lids are a loose and sloppy fit on the step side bags. Step side lids do not fit on smooth side bags. When matched correctly they are a nice fit.

Palmers Vol 2 discusses seven variation of the bags (63-68). Time to read and digest it more completely. Unfortunately the pics of the variations are absent. And the parts manual is not exactly clear to me either.

Hey Panz....Looks like a “bitza bike”....bits of this, and bits of that.

Keep trying, stay at it....you are doing a pretty good job.

It will be interesting to see your creation when all is said be done.

Keep us posted...I want to see the final product sooner rather than later !

..........ummmmmm, not sure if you have followed this thread from the start, but I do not consider this a "bitsa bike". So far the only non-1965 component is the seat (1940s), the lower front fender trim (1970 accessory) and the sidecar frame (1959). At day's end the only part of the motor that will not be OEM/NOS will be the flywheels. And I may opt for the frame shift 3+R assembly (introduced in 1966) so that I can keep using my 5 gallon tanks.

Please feel free to point out what is incorrect. All input is welcome.

Anything more than 2 bikes is a “bitza bike” .

It’s like that Johnny Cash song.....”She’s a 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 .....”

I think you are doing a good job....stay with it!

Interesting perspective. Don't follow modern bikes. But there was a time that HD used the same part (sometimes the catalog part number changed but it was still the exact same part) across a number of years. To the uninformed it would appear to be a collection of parts, in truth the "collectioon" is correct for the bike and not pieced togather.

Both of mine ('49 and '65) are restorations and as close as I can afford to get to "original" condition. Neither are or will ever be considered AMCA "worthy", just completed to my own satisfaction.

Accessorizing one's bike back in the Panhead era was as common then as it is today. The trim piecs added are NOS not Tedd's made in Tawain.

Sidecar frames and most mounting componentrs remained the same from 1937 until the mid to late 70s. Only difference was the frame number changed from year-to-year.

Oh, and please feel free to post pics of your "all original" Panhead.
