It was called horse hair mat. They also used automotive type springs in the seat cushions.

Also found out that the material for your seat, sidepanels and winshield/cover is the same material used for the winter windshield. I have that materail when I disassembled a winter windshiedl intended for my 49 EL. Have an upholstery place that has helped me in the past. Going to see if the lady who owns the business has an idea as to where I could find something similar.

Going to post some additional "help needed" from you once I get that locking mechanism you found for me on the flea.

All saddlebags are not created equal....at least from what I found from the two sets that I have and restored

The reason being...

...meaning (for these bags anyway) you could fit the short back lid (sloppy fit) on the one set (with the cut out) but the tall back lids will not fit on the other (smooth side) becuase they are just about 1/2 inch too short.

Both sets are OEM

Scored this from a seller on facebook group. You see these on the flea and most often they are stupid crazy pricing ($300-800) and then the seller tack on another $150 and up for shipping. Seems like anything cheaper is usually thrashed. This was in great shape and was neither expensive nor did it cost me my first born daughter to have it shippped

Needed some TLC. When I got it the top looked like what you see on the left. Took simple green and #0000 steel wool to get it to what you see on the right portion of the lid.

Even came withe the original rail mounts. Inside is in really nice condition as well. The lid is in almost perfect condition.

The only thing missing is the key. All of the hardware (latches and such) is very good condition.

After some scrubbing, removing stickers as well as the old foam backing tape inside the lid

Will be a nice addition to the bike when complete. Granted not correct for 65 models but just says, "Yes, just do it" all over it. The first I see the small (this one) and large size luggage carriers is in the 1969 Accesoory catalog.

Going to be disassmebling the hardware so that I can have the outside painted (that is unless, of course someone wants to buy me the beautiful 1976 Shovel that is for sale on the fourm and I will gladly attach it to that bike). Going to attempt to remove the sticker on the lid as well (or find a replacement if the attempt fails. I think it is # #53311-69, Name plate "Tour-Pak"). And going to see if I can locate a key for the lock on the lid.

Great score. I am sure lots of '65 Pans in 1970 had those installed by the long haul crowd.

Does it need to be painted? Looks pretty good in the pics.

Can you still get a good NOS emblem? I would just mask it and spray around it. Vaseline makes a good mask, and doesn't damage the part.

Great score on the beer box! You're going to need to replace that Panhead with a Twinkie engine just to move it around with the sidecar and all the accessories!

Let me know if you can get that vinyl for the wintershield / sidecar seats. I'll need some too.

It is in really nice shape with the clean up. If I had an original condition bike it would go on just as it is. That said it needs to be brought up to the same condition as my bags, so it will be disassmebled, have the parts polisehed/cad-plated and the fibergalss repainted and then reassembled.

A locksmith may be able to make a key for that lock. I’ve had a couple saddlebag locks made. Problem may be the blanks. Same keys were used on luggage back in the day.
