Where I am currently at...

I took off the stock mufflers (for now anyway) Once I run it a few miles I will re-install them.

I'm probaby only a couple of hours from start up on the '65 but the 84 has diverted my attention with the starter issue. Thanks to John I think I have it diagnosed (finally).

Have a local buyer interetsted in the 84. I get that gone the 96 FLHT will be next. I won't get the money I invested but I need it so that I can get a start on my niece's 50 Pan Chop Project

When I bought the bike in 1970, it was as quiet as a church mouse. I went from the "extra quiet" dual exhaust to the single exhaust with the "torpedo" muffler just to improve the sound. Guess it kinda stuck with me after 50 years. And for me anyway, I really do like the looks of the torpedo muffler. Just a "cleaner" appearance in my books.

The torpedo mufflers are from Gasbox. They have a decent rep. We shall see how much I really like them. That said I know I will switch back to the stock mufflers at some point just because they are "original" equipment.

Torpedo / cigar, could be the same thing? I have a cigar muffler on my 72 (entire exhaust in fact) from Gasbox and it makes a great sound. They do make a great product.

After talking on the phone and showing them pictures of an original pipe, they sent me one yesterday that has some ugliness on it like a factory pipe. Not quite as ripply as original but getting there.

For me as well the sound is whats it about sure HD was complying to the left making church mouse exhaust does not need to be installed

what works for you does - if you ever show it for real then install it so the ninnies give the machine what it deserves

real nice job pans

Was digging thru stuff to keep pushing on my niece's Chopped 50 and came across this. Came attached to my 65 when I bought the bike in 1970. It was mounted on top of the handlebar cover.

Had to be made for only a short duration cuz with the introduction of the fairing, next came the box with the radio, speakers and other gizmos.

First thing I took off the bike and boxed up. Totally forgot about it. It's a Motorola AM radio.

I can tell you that around here, in the 60s and 70s, the top three AM radio stations were 1260 KYA (rock-n-roll), 1570 KEEN (country), and KDIA Lucky 13 (soul patrol).

The Tijuana tuck-n-roll lid lifts up for storage and inside the back is this sticker

Damn near one year since I posted up on the 65 build. Now that I have the chopped 50 completed, I will be getting back to completing this rebuild.

One thing I will be adding is this...

Only change will be to enclose the wires in a cloth loom rather than the black plastic loom.

Spent most of yesterday going from a bare sidecar frame...........to an almost assembled hack.

Trying to ensure I have everything needed (including every nut, bolt and washer) before I disassemble for paint. Still have to fit the seat stuff, spare tire carrier and windshield. Also gonna do the stainless trim pieces and pre-wire for the fender lighting (have to pull the tire for the lighting stuff).

Well as of yesterday...

Still a couple things to do to complete this before disassembly. Have to fix the clips that secure the front skirt before I can drill the holes for the snaps. Need to get the wire in for the fender lamp. Need to replace the thin windshield material. Not sure what it is (some type of plastic)

Lastly, anyone have a source for the strap that secures the check strap. I know Paul (hellonewman) was looking but I don't think he found a source either. The only cotton webbing I have found is half the thickness. May end up sewing two pieces together, but it would be nice to find the correct webbing.
