Default Control lamp 65 eglide

Hello everybody knowing the 65 Panhead details...

I’m going to finalize a bolt and nut restoration and two issues (for now ;-) I’m not sure about:
1. The cover of handlebar clamp has a red control lamp it looks as OEM in regard shape, cable connection and condition. I’m not sure what’s for anymore. Nothing read in documents, wiring diagrams, books and so on.
2. I was able to buy a NOS Lighter 91800-60 and really like to add it. I have no idea where to. There are two screw holes on one side but no place at handlebar or close.

If anybody here knows about I really appreciate.
Any information is important to me and pictures will be a great deal.
thanks a lot
Andreas

I don't know what a nut and bolt resto is actually but from the picture you did not do an authentic restoration

Now I am not picking on what you did - but your reading some sort of book and re doing this machine

so we are on the same page - the throttle is not correct as a snap back type - and my guess seeing that type throttle it no longer has the linkert M74B carburetor

the light was an add on for HI beams and some even used that for the directionals as to see that they were left on - and that spot was also used for a lighter as its easy to pull and return in that spot - in the headlight nacelle right or left sides is not a practical location - your choice what to put but drilling holes in 50 year old parts is never a good idea for any reason just my take

Picture shows the Panhead i bought... not the status of restoration. Will end correct in mint condition as it need to. some small upgrades for the rear swing arm, absolutely unvisible but necassary to allow better driving performance.
Handlebar has been changed to NOS and the M74B is already in place.
The spot in the middle of the cover is for models with steering dampers I thing so lighter will not fit.
Here two pics of the lighter.... Any ideas where to mount this unit?

What changes to the swing arm did you make to improve the ride?

I would mount a lighter (without that casting) to an area near the battery. Use the battery ground tab to mount a bracket that holds the socket.

I would check the diamter of the hole for the steering damper unit first to see if it will fit.

The accessrory catalog states that your item mounts on the hadlebar. MoCo offered a cigarette lighter kit (#91807-65 for a whopping $5.90) that was for use with the steering damper and/or without tachometer.

That said mounting on the handle bars would require some type of metal strap.

Suppose it would be similar to the additional handlebar switch clanmps (in this case used for accessory spotlamps).

The only other thing I can think of would be something like what was used to mount the exhaust sheild cover on 1965 Pan models.

And the pic of your accessory appears to take a #10 or #12 screw of some some sort.

I'll ask around on a couple of other forums I subscribe to. If I find out anything and can come up with a pic I will post it here.

Lastly the accessory catalog does not show the clamps or parts needed to attach it to the handlebars; only the pic of what you posted.

On my 1970, that chrome cap above the "added" indicator light is where the lighter goes. I installed a Factory kit a couple of years ago, the directions provided the dimensions to drill the hole. Good luck.

Gomoll, a really old time HD mechanic and rider on another forum said this...

The curve on it matches the cast aluminum handlebar cover which is then drilled and tapped for two screws to hold them together. It is '60 up... The '59 and back type is different.

Look like it is intended to piggyback on the handlebar cover.

Picture of it installed on my 1970 FLH. I found a NOS in the box MoCo accessory lighter with the directions (I can post a pic of needed). The directions gave the dimensions for locating the hole so the lighter does not interfere with the handle bar clamp.
