I'm rebuilding a 1951, 6 Volt, 32E, 3 brush generator. What should the resistance in the field coils be? Mine are: Regulator field coil- 3.6 ohms, Shunt field coil- 7.8 ohms.
Also, the cloth covering of the field coils is saturated with oil. Is this a concern? The wrap around the actual coils is in good shape, but the cloth wrap around the wires is loose. Should I address this issue? If so, is heat shrink tubing over the existing cloth acceptable, or should I remove the loose cloth and then apply heat shrink tubing (or something else)?
Are the filed coils interchangeable, or must they be installed in the same position from which they were removed?
