I just picked up this frame and was wondering if any one could help me identify it, I was told it had a pan motor in it back in the day but the seat tube was notch to get a shovel in, there is molding around the neck and on top of the seat post so there are no visable numbers, there are numbers on the axle plates XE-6 on the right and XE-7 on the left, the motor mount reads XE 621, any advice would be great thanks
Pics are just a thumbnail. Any chance you can post larger ones? And best advice I would give you is to have the frame bead blasted. The numbers you posted are general frame/casting numbers for pan era models. Depending on what was done and year, there are additional numbers near the top tank mounts and top motor mount
looks like you have a part number in the picture,i cant read it but the last 2 numbers would be the year the casting was designed ie.0000-56..1956.every cast part of the frame will have a number but it will give you an idea..the only frame i have seen that needed notched was early knucklehead frames,i had a 37 that had a smashed in seat tube to fit a pan,shovel..i think there was a model/id number stamped on the rear axle block that gave the year
Hard to tell anything without closeup pics. Look on the right side of the top motor mount (near the top of it where it's welded to the backbone) and see if there is a production date code. "52 and later frames had this code stamped into the metal. Post closeup pics of critical areas and I'm sure you will get some answers. Show the top motor mount, steering head, bottom mount, etc.
The frame appears to be somewhere from 1937 to 1947. But it could be 1948 to 1951 because its hard to be sure from that full photo. The appearance of the top engine mount indicates a pre-1952 frame and that would not have a date code. Harley used a couple of types of top mount prior to 52 but I can't tell if that frame has the 48-51 style or the earlier type.
You mentioned there was moulding around the neck so Ill assume theres no sign of a steering head lock?
And I cant tell what sort of front downtubes it has from the photo. If the front downtubes are straightleg that would help indicate 37-47 but if they are wishbone that would help indicate 48-51. Eric
