1992 FXR. Will a bad primary bearing cause a lot of vibration?
Also do I need to compress the spring to remove clutch/clutch basket? or can I remove as a unit?
I've replaced motor mount, stablizer links, and the swing arm isolator's. Tracks straight, shifts great and quiet. Think I can hear a "squeak" at the rear of the primary. vibrates bad enough I'm afraid of cracking the fairing and bags. Does it stopped, while riding, in gear, out of gear.
Great information Dan, thank you. I'll check that. I don't relish pulling the inner, but if that's the source of my vibration, inexpensive fix. Back to my first question, can I pull the clutch and basket as a unit without compressing the spring?
You should be able to remove the clutch as an assembly without a spring compression tool. Mainshaft nut is under release plate. Remove retaining ring to remove release plate. Highly recommend you get a factory service manual if you don't have one.
Thanks for the info. I do have a factory manual, includes the FLT as well as the FXR. It's not that descriptive, actually pretty vague. The SM for my newer bikes is much better.
