Can you obtain the code? (if engine light comes on you got a code)
What was happening that made you change the sensor?
In 5 speed models the speedo head calculates speed, in 6 speeds the ecm does.
also 5 speeds are 12v sensors and 6 speeds are 5V (that was the reason for asking 5 or 6 speed)
Believe it or not there are no codes... I even hooked up a HD scanner? I thought that was odd!
I plan on pulling the dash off tomorrow and make sure that everything is plugged in well.
You stated earlier the engine light comes on, Other than initial key ON if the light comes on, you have/had a code.
Why did you change the sensor in the first place?
P.S. scanalyzer is old stuff now, they show up on ebay from time to time if ya really want one.
Speedo started to act sporadic, pulled the sensor out and cleaned it. It had the usual fuzz of shavings or so they say as I trouble shot it on Google and YouTube.
After hooking up the scanner did it three times, it showed zero codes even the bike using the toggle switch shows now codes even with the engine light on? Makes no sense to me either?
Reason I want a scanner is I have one for my car and it has paid for itself many times over..
And I have already checked evilbay as I also started looking for a new speedo just in case..
And to who ever said changing the sensor was an easy job.... Lied
Not sure what year bike you have, but don't buy a used speedo. They get married to the ECM on installation and once that is done you cannot re-use the speedo with another ECM.
Akrughty... Thoughts on this?
Bike will register speed in neutral going down hill, and when put in gear speedo goes flat,
So I also tried this.. Got up to a good speed, engaged the clutch in gear, speedo starts working, but when let off the clutch the speedo dies or freezes at the speed I was going
But does anyone have a good diagram of the wiring system?
The manual I have I know is wrong as it has the same color wires for left and right turn signals.. And the ignition wires were wrong too!
Want to find the ground wires to the speedo, the speed sensor and the main ground wires.
